Aggressive Dog Behavior Training
Many of us have known an experience that might have been avoided with aggressive dog
behavior training. We may have been walking past a fenced yard, or passing a dog that’s on a
leash. Suddenly we’re confronted with angry eyes and large teeth, accompanied by harsh barking. The
animal’s behavior is upsetting and completely unnecessary, since we weren’t challenging the dog’s territory in
any way.

It Starts With The Owner
Aggressive dog behavior training is one way this canine condition can be corrected, and
the training must include the dog’s owner. The owner is as much a part of the problem as the dog, and for
this reason, the owner’s involvement is essential in aggressive dog behavior training.
Understanding Signals
As an owner, understanding the signals that you are sending the dog is the first step in the
training process. For some reason, the dog has determined you are in danger, and as its master, you must be
protected. These are misinterpreted messages that an inexperienced owner is inadvertently communicating to
his, or her pet.
Aggression in Young Dogs
Another situation that requires aggressive dog behavior training would involve a young dog and its
new owner. There are instances where a person with a debilitating or vulnerable condition acquired a juvenile
dog, and the young animal became more aggressive as it continued to sense that person’s fear.
Aggressive dog behavior training can correct an over-protective condition in a dog,
however, the owner is another matter. In some cases, the only solution is to separate the dog from that
owner, and hopefully find the animal a proper home.
Correcting Unnecessary Aggressiveness
The experienced dog person may be able to help with correcting unnecessary aggressiveness
in a dog, as long as the dog is somewhat familiar with that person. Aggressive dog behavior training
might begin with intimate communication, that involves calm vocal tones and brushing or stroking the dog’s
coat at the same time.
The idea is to remind the animal that there are situations where an aggressive alert is not
required. This is an area of expertise that is designed to gain the animal’s trust and promote
confidence.
Be Patient
Aggressive dog behavior training requires patience, consistency and the right information in order
to be successful. In this regard, a thorough physical examination should be included to determine whether the
dog is hurting, since pain may be associated with the dog's aggressive behavior.
Include Rewards When Training
More often that not, the owner of an aggressive dog has been remiss in some way. Discipline and
reward training was not included in the dog’s upbringing, and this resulted in bad behavior. In another
scenario, the owner actually enjoys the animal’s bad behavior, and when this is the case, there is no
question the dog is unhappy.
Aggressive dog behavior training can only be effective when the owner makes a commitment to the
dog’s well being and contentment.
